Consider Saint Augustine Sod for your spring lawn renovation.
You may have a Ten to Twenty year old lawn that is looking very tired and thin, and may have disease or fungus or has been invaded by mole crickets or perhaps chinch bugs or fire ants.
Your lawn could also be having problems because of trees in your yard that are providing a lot of shade which makes it difficult for many southern grasses to have sustained healthy growth and a strong root foundation.
Well there is a solution for these problems and that is to kill off your old lawn and install fresh Saint Augustine Sod from Superior Sod you will be pleasantly surprised with how beautiful your yard will look after spending a reasonable amount of money which will also increase your property value.
You can do this and we are here to help!

EMPIRE Turf is a Zoysia grass that has truly raised the bar for warm season turf grass. EMPIRE sod combines soft to the touch feel with lush green color and fine, tight blade growth. Visually, EMPIRE is an extremely attractive turf grass for any landscaping job. Homeowners and Property Managers also appreciate its many maintenance, environmental, and cost saving advantages.
You might not expect a turf grass as soft as EMPIRE to be so strong, but this incredible Zoysia grass accommodates a variety of activities without suffering extensive wear and tear. EMPIRE Turf is as hardy as it is attractive, and has a deep, thick root structure that makes it more drought tolerant than other varieties of Zoysia grass, once established. In addition EMPIRE’s slower vertical growth and natural chinch bug and chemical resistances mean that your lawn will require less maintenance, mowing, and water than other types of warm season turf grass. An EMPIRE turf lawn that has been naturalized to the local climate requires minimal irrigation to remain healthy and thriving.
Reduced maintenance needs and durability are EMPIRE’s hallmarks. EMPIRE Zoysia grass was originally developed in Brazil, and thrives in both harsh tropical climates such as Southern Florida as well as all areas in North Carolina. EMPIRE Turf is one of the few grasses rated to perform well in all zones, and it can thrive in varying soils and climatic conditions.
Durable enough for professional use, EMPIRE is also a favorite of golf courses, theme parks, master planned communities, office complexes and other commercial areas.

Hi folks we are wanting everyone to know that sodding in the fall and through the winter is very fine. The sods will knit down until the soil temperature reaches a low of 47 degrees. It will require many cold nights for our soils here in Southeastern NC to reach that temperature. And even after that you can lay totally dormant sod (there is root activity) on soils that are even frozen. The sod will simply lay there – stopping the mud and dust from coming in your home and stopping any erosion. By mid April, the dormant sods will “wake up” and start showing new leaf growth. This is the time to fertilize as well. Do NOT apply a pre-emergent fertilizer for weeds until the following fall. Mowing will remove most winter time annuals and spring time weeds.
Because of the many calls we have received and the desire to have magnificent palm trees installed we have purchased a truck load of Palmetto Palms that are on their way to Superior Sod in Wilmington. We will let you know as soon as they arrive at our Market Street location in Wilmington.
This is a great time to purchase these beautiful specimens please call us to reserve or stop by our Center on Market Street to pick one or several out for your property!
SUPERIOR SOD AND GARDEN SUPPLIES
WHEN IT COMES TO THE PRODUCTION, DISTRIBUTION, AND PROPER CARE OF TURF GRASSES, THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE TO GO THAN TO SUPERIOR SOD AND GARDEN SUPPLIES IN OGDEN. FOR THE PAST SEVEN YEARS WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE HONOR AND RECOGNITION BY THE ARBORETUM IN WILMINGTON, NC BY RECEIVING THEIR ”BEST IN EDUCATION” AWARD”.
THIS, ALONG WITH OUR HIGH STANDARDS FOR QUALITY, EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND HAVING A CONSISTENT YEAR ROUND SUPPLY PROVIDES OUR CUSTOMERS WITH THE COMFORT IN KNOWING THAT WE CAN BE TRUSTED AND COUNTED ON.
EVERY PART OF SOD PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION MUST BE DONE WITHOUT CUTTING ANY CORNERS. IT STARTS WITH PREPING THE FIELDS PROPERLY, SEEDING OR SPRIGGING THOSE FIELDS, APPLYING PROPER IRRIGATION AND MANY CULTURAL PRACTICES UNTIL THE SOD IS OF SUCH A QUALITY AND STRENGTH THAT IT CAN BE RELEASED FOR HARVESTING. DEPENDING UPON THE VARIETY, THIS CAN TAKE ANYWHERE FROM 6 TO 24 MONTHS.
FROM THE FARM FIELD TO THE CUSTOMERS THERE ARE MANY CRITICAL STEPS THAT MUST BE ADHERED TO, BUT THERE ARE TWO ASPECTS THAT MUST ALWAYS BE CONSIDERED:
1. TIMING: THE SOD MUST BE DELIVERED OR READY FOR PICK UP AS IF IT WERE HARVESTED IN THE LAST 2 HOURS. WE STRIVE TO HAVE SOD THAT IS FRESH AND MOIST. SOD IS A PERISHABLE PRODUCT.
2. SAFETY: THIS IS A CRITICAL ASPECT TO ALWAYS HAVE IN THE FOREFRONT IN ORDER TO AVOID HAVING ANY ACCIDENT OR UNNECESSARY MISHAPS. SOD IS A HEAVY PRODUCT.
FOR THE CUSTOMER ALL THIS IS PROVIDED FOR YOU AS SHOWN IN THE VIDEO.
WE AT SUPERIOR SOD AND GARDEN SUPPLIES HAVE ALSO TAKEN A LENGTHY PERIOD OF TIME TO UNDERSTAND AND LOCATE THE PALM VARIETIES THAT ARE WINTER HARDY FOR OUR NORTH CAROLINA ENVIRONMENT, THE BEST LONG LEAF PINE STRAW WHICH IS FAR SUPERIOR TO THE SLASH STRAW SOLD BY THE BIG BOX STORES, HAVING THE BEST OF THE MULCHES AND A TOPSOIL BLEND PRODUCED BY THE FATHER OF MULCHES, MR. PARKER, IN ROSE HILL, NC, AND PROVIDING THE RIGHT FERTILZERS WHICH ARE USED ON THE FARMS – AGAIN – NOT FOUND IN THE BOX STORES. AND, WE ARE FAR LESS EXPENSIVE.
We are working diligently to bring you a new website that will be packed with information including some great video tutorials!
